Download Time Calculator

Estimate file download time from file size in megabytes and connection speed in megabits per second.

How to calculate download time

A byte contains eight bits. Multiply file size in megabytes by eight, then divide by speed in megabits per second to calculate ideal transfer time in seconds.

Formula

file MB × 8 ÷ Mbps

Worked example

File size (MB)
1,000
Speed (Mbps)
50

Applying the formula to these values gives 160 seconds.

What should I check?

This uses decimal MB and Mbps. Network overhead, Wi-Fi quality and server limits can increase actual download time.
