Tile Calculator

Estimate the number of tiles for a floor or wall using area, tile dimensions and a waste allowance.

How to calculate tile quantity

Convert tile width and length from centimetres to metres to calculate the area of one tile. Divide the total area by that figure, include your waste percentage and round up.

Formula

round up: area ÷ tile area × (1 + waste ÷ 100)

Worked example

Area (m²)
12
Tile width (cm)
30
Tile length (cm)
30
Waste (%)
10

Applying the formula to these values gives 147 tiles.

What should I check?

This is an area estimate. Layout, grout joints, diagonal patterns, cuts and breakage can alter the number of tiles required.
